so, like, epic.

So at my new data entry job my office bestie John (whose whole life is lit-worthy, btw, but that's another story)and I listen to One life to Live every day on his walkman. (OLTL is my soap =D It's my guilty pleasure and I loves it.) Today we were listening to the beginning of Llanview/Llantano/Pennsylvania/whatever versus Todd Manning, including Nora and Téa's opening statements for the prosecution and the defense, respectively, and it reminded me so much of Mock Trial. And since I was a defense attorney and John did say I would be Téa if I were an OLTL character, I wanted to dig up my old closings because I was an awesome closer and I wanted to read them again.

I found my closing for Ina Fectious v. Tagen Burgers, LLC, the People v. Nurse Ratched for Ms. Telmany's class and Metropolitan v. Avery Fisher. The last one, from 2008, was most def. my favorite, especially because it included the following paragraph, which, if I may say, is one of the most amazing paragraphs I have written ever:


Last and definitely least: the hasty, judgmental Detective Alex Santiago. Instead of employing a forensic lab, she relied on Dr. Everhart who isn’t trained for forensic work—being a cardiologist, going to a few get-togethers about blood doping isn’t enough to make a forensic authority. It’s common sense. But this detective has an uncommon sense—she determines things are fact with little to no proof—sometimes with just words or hunches. She thought the grieving Mr. Fisher was quote “taking his daughter’s death [well]”—clearly not true. Even after 7 or so years working for K.I.D.S., she doesn’t realize that people respond differently to grief. She then jumped on Mr. Richman’s words—Chris’s alleged drug use. After finding receipts from an online pharmacy and assuming that they sold illegal substances, she obtained a warrant. She would’ve executed it herself, but she was too exhausted from jumping…jumping to conclusions. She let other officers investigate then took their over-the-phone report as absolute fact. No concrete evidence was found, yet the detective was satisfied.


Clearly, the red portion is my favorite.

Also, I have written two chapters/episodes for a new story I am working on. This is the first time I have been able to set writing goals for myself and meet them. The story's working title is "Epic" (I know, I know, ambitious, right?) and it's basically about a girl who discovers she has super powers who accidentally gets sent back in time while training to control her powers. More details later. =)

My college situation is still not taken care of but I am more determined than ever to succeed as a writer. Hopefully, my next few projects will include more short plays (or maybe even a longer one!), more chapters for "Epic," and maybe even a couple profiles for people because I love doing those and I seem to be good at them. =) Ideally, I want to do another more official and well-done one for Joelle Zigman so she can use that promos, perhaps one on John because he's so interesting and I also want to do maybe someone from MAHS like Smith, Mallm or Felton (which I think would HAVE to be ridiculously good lol).

So I guess that would mean I would have to start working....now. =P
